Information Literacy

Knowledge is Power

Knowledge is something you can use to your advantage. It can be manipulated to help or hurt people. It can be used to create or destroy, it can be shared or kept to oneself. It is truly a powerful thing when placed in the right hands. Thus, it has an importance to human life; it can lead to activities that contribute to one gaining wealth and influence.

Importance of Giving Credit to the Source

It is important to give credit to the source of one's work because it is their work and they have a right to it - it is their property. One should respect other people's property. The person who made that work has put effort into it, and it is disrespectful, ungrateful and wrong for one to take it without crediting them. Taking information from a source without crediting the source is the same as stealing someone's physical property.

Academic Trip

Let's say that I was tasked to planjj an academic trip. I should list pertinent information on two possible destinations  and present valid and reliable information. This is what it would look like.

An Essay About an Information Literate Individual

Ben Shapiro is an American conservative political commentator, columnist, author, radio talk show host, and lawyer. He is an intellectual, best known for his witty criticisms on "left-wing" concepts such as white privilege, toxic masculinity and social justice. He is equally upheld by his right-wing supporters and scorned by left-wing so-called Social Justice Warriors(SJWs). He is one of the youngest and most popular conservatives outside mainstream media - quite the person of interest.

I barely knew about this person, mainly because of the fact that he is under my radar as he is mostly visible outside mainstream media. But in one instance I saw a video of him debating against what seemed to be a supporter of something called Transgenderism.  watched just a snippet of this video and he already caught my eye with the way he talked about his direct and daring views on quite controversial topics. Now already, he is quite a literate when it comes to media and information. He is adept in understanding and manipulating information and media, as he has written several books, have went to several debates, talk shows, interviews, and has his own podcast where he discusses about the views and principles he strongly supports. In the little amount of research I have done on him, I have mixed opinions on this man. For one, he supports some principles and concepts that I also support, and he seems to also be aware of the recent ridiculousness on society and is speaking out on it, and may I add he is doing so in quite the joking, witty manner. On the
other hand, he also has views and beliefs that I disagree with to some extent.

Ben Shapiro has his redeeming points and his disagreeable ones, but neutrally he is quite the interesting person. In some cases I would gladly support him, and in other cases I would disagree and leave out on them. But if I would have the opportunity to be able to talk to him, even if it would be simple small talk that turns to large conversations on politics and then ends with a debate, then I would gladly take it.
